Posted 5/7/2006 7:40:44 PM | | | One of our staff had a lengthly conversation today with a casting director who loves to cast from our web site.
In addition to complimenting us, they commented on the users and members of our site.
What he kept saying over and over again was that people do NOT follow instructions. He was incredibly frustrated with the fact that after posting an audition and listing instructions on how to submit over 75% did NOT follow instructions.
He asked for a package to be sent after the initial email submission. The package must contain a DVD that shows various monologues(range of emotions). Example, show us how angry, sad, evil, scared, happy, and crazy etc. you could be. Be EXTREMELY creative, uncensored, raw, but professional! You can impersonate a familiar face, but show creativity and originality.
2) Film Credits/Demo Reel (if applicable)
3) Resume/Headshots/RefeHead shots
Like he said, over 75% did not send a complete package. This resulted in wasted time for everyone.
Another statement he made was what we have been preaching and harping to all of you for a long time.
If you are unable to follow instructions and directions initially, what makes you think that he or any casting director would want you to work on on their film?
He wants actors and actresses that are able to follow directions and instructions. That is what the craft of acting is about.
The director directs and the actor follows his direction.
Now you know why we now review everyone that wants access to the casting calls and auditions. We have seen first hand what people are submitting to the production personnel.
We tried to keep it open to all and just reivew the submissions, that did not work because we were overwelmed with hundreds of responses a day. The staff was working overtime just trying to go through the submissions and correct, respond and submit to the production people.
So we hope you understand that to get into this field is just like getting a job. You must be prepared and you must follow instructions. If you cannot, may we suggest that you just move on to another field. You will not be discovered, get your "Big Break" if you cannot follow instructions.

| Posted 9/25/2006 8:01:47 PM | | | In order to actually "post" do you submit your note and*** reply? Whenever I do this, I am afraid I am sending this out to everyone! I just want to post professionally and I can't seem to figure that out.
I have read everything, but cannot find a step by step on how to actually electronically post.
Thanks for your consideration!

| Posted 9/25/2006 9:04:39 PM | | | | Hi Bree, If you are asking how to submit to the casting calls, simply read the post you are interested in and follow the instructions as posted by the casting person. Example: They ask you to send them a copy of your resume and a photo, then you open your email, attach a photo and resume and introduction as requested and send to the email address they provide. Some casting personnel request you send via email, some request you telephone them and a few may ask that you send the materials via postal. Each post is similiar to an ad outlining the audition specifics. If you need additional help, you are welcome to call the hotline and speak to a staff member. There are a number of posts in this forum that outline how to submit for an audition properly. You can use the forum search function and actually look up posts on specific subjects. The search function is located at the upper top of the forum. The link says "Search" Hope this helps...

| Posted 10/10/2006 10:47:56 AM | | | Hello Bree,
I am Rae clay a recent member of EFM. Thanks for asking that question because I had some areas where I was also reading the instructions but, I still was not certain if I completely understood what they were asking for.

| Posted 12/29/2006 6:33:51 AM | | | I have been acting for over 20 years. I understand what you mean. Being able to handle the "business" side of show business is a huge part of the battle and if actors can't get it, then they need to think about what they really want to do. Always check and follow the instuctions given on any site for an audition. I once assisted a local acting coach. She was hosting an auditon. An actor called for directions which I gave him. The next day he called back, he asked the same thing again. I cheerfully repeated them. The following day he called again and asked the same question. I asked what he hadn't understood the previous times. He said, "nothing, this time I'm going to write them down." Don't be like this guy, get it right the first time.
